Carmel Calcagno

Yoga Instructor Carmel CalcagnoCarmel began her practice in 1989 after a book fell on her head in a local bookstore. The book “Initiation” was not about yoga but reincarnation and in one the lifetimes the author was an Egyptian Princess and did yoga every morning.  She bought the book and took her first yoga class the same month.  After practicing for 7 years her teacher asked her to teach for him while he was away, not her plan, but it was the beginning of her teaching experience.  After 10 years of practicing yoga Carmel met John Friend, creator of Anusara Yoga, and began her practice with the most amazing group of teachers ever!  She was certified in 2003 and opened her studio, Yoga Anjali, in Belmar, NJ the same year.  Carmel has a strong meditation practice as well after being initiated into Neelakantha Meditation by Paul Mueller-Ortega of Blue Throat Yoga in 2008.

1208995_585899841456609_867616669_nI‘ve taken yoga at about half a dozen different places now, and Carmel is by far the best teacher of the lot. She pays attention to what her students are doing, so that they don’t get hurt. She cares about form, more than turning the class into an aerobic exercise. And she’s funny, to boot!  Caren

I love my yoga practice with Carmel. My practice has blossomed under her guidance and teachings. She brings such light and love to every class.  Joan

The best yoga class I’ve ever taken, and I’ve taken quite a few! If you want to feel the best you’ve ever felt in your body and spirit, you MUST take a class with Carmel today!  Jesse
